QCN9274/WiFi 7: Exploring the cornerstone of the next generation of digital life
Do you feel that WiFi technology has developed too fast in recent years?
2021 is the first year of WiFi 6. Two years later, WiFi7 will debut with new technology.
How will the new technology of WiFi 7 improve our daily use?
1.WiFi 7 core capabilities
Compared with WiFi 6, the core capabilities of WiFi 7 are mainly improved in:
320MHz carrier bandwidth, 4K QAM modulation, MLO multi-connection, 16-stream antenna technology, etc.
Next, I will analyze them one by one from the perspective of actual use.
320Mb carrier bandwidth
For wireless communication systems, carrier bandwidth is the core resource and the most effective means to increase the rate.
Under the WiFi 6 standard, the carrier bandwidths that the router can use are 80MHz and 160MHz;
Under the WiFi 7 standard, the maximum carrier bandwidth has been increased to 320MHz.
Doubling the carrier bandwidth directly means doubling the speed!
This is easy to understand. The carrier bandwidth is equivalent to the lanes of a highway. The more lanes there are, the more cars can run at the same time, and the natural traffic volume will be greater.
That is to say, in the single antenna state:
The original maximum negotiated rate at 160MHz bandwidth is 1201Mb, but at 320MHz it can be directly doubled to 2402Mb!
4K QAM/16 streams
QAM quadrature amplitude modulation is the key to the ultra-high speed of modern communications, which determines the amount of data carried by one symbol (or one waveform) per unit time.
The standard in the WiFi6 era is 1024QAM, but Qualcomm is the first to use 4096QAM modulation on its own radio frequency chip (the transmitter and receiver need to be both Qualcomm chips);
And WiFi 7, 4K QAM modulation will become the standard
So is the 4096QAM rate 4 times that of 1024QAM?
Not really.
1024QAM represents 2^10, which means one symbol carries 10 bits of data;
4096QAM represents 2^12, which means one symbol carries 12 bit data;
Therefore, 4096QAM can only increase the rate by 20%, that is, from a single stream of 1201Mb to 1441Mb.
MLO multi-connection technology
WiFi 7 adds MLO technology, which supports terminals to connect to multiple frequency bands of the router at the same time. It can not only double the transmission rate through dual-band aggregation, but also achieve seamless switching between different APs (routers) under the same LAN.
